Dr Carlene Firmin, MBE
Senior Research Fellow
Bio: Dr Carlene Firmin MBE is a social policy researcher committed to generating evidence on inequality, social justice, and the protection of children and young people. Carlene is currently senior research fellow at the International Centre (IC) University of Bedfordshire, where she manages the contextual safeguarding and peer-on-peer abuse research programmes. Since 2011 Carlene has conducted contextual reviews of peer-on-peer abuse cases and supported the development of contextual practices across the UK. Findings from this work has been used to develop training and strategic advice for professionals in over 70 local authorities in England.
Dr Jenny Lloyd
Bio: Dr Jenny Lloyd is a Research Fellow at the International Centre with a particular interest in women’s rights, social justice and exploitation. As a researcher in the MsUnderstood Partnership she is carrying contextual safeguarding audits on peer-on-peer abuse. She also works as a researcher on the IC’s CSE policing models project
Bio: Ruth Atkinson is a Research Assistant at the International Centre where she manages the Contextual Safeguarding Network and supports the wider programme of work researching contextual safeguarding. Ruth is committed to addressing social inequality. She has a Masters in Human Rights and a background in health and social care policy and women’s rights.
